History and Growth of Aston Martin

Aston Martin is one of those automobile companies that are obsessed with design. Andy Palmer, their automaker's CEO, once put it clear that they aspire to produce the most beautiful cars in the world. This British car manufacturer has excelled in making luxury cars that exhibit sleek design. Aston Martin has gone on to be a global automobile brand and not just the face of Britain.

How It Started

Aston Martin was founded in 1913, making it an automobile company with one of the longest histories of car manufacturing in Britain. Its founders were Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, who were based in London. They

started by manufacturing cars for Singer but later on decided on manufacturing their own.

About its name, Martin came from one of the owners while Aston came from a place. Aston Hill is a famous place for motorsports events. Soon as they manufactured their cars, Lionel would take them to Aston Hill for drive tests form his love for car racing. Their first car was produced in 1915, but production was soon affected by the war.

Highs and Lows

Soon after World War I, the second Aston Martin car was manufactured in 1919. This was after finding new premises at Kensington. After the production of this car, Robert Bamford retired from the company. The continuity in production was important to keep the company's activities going, even with the retirement of Robert Bamford.

The sailing was not always smooth for Aston Martin, as a tragedy in 1924 soon hit them. During this year's Italian Grand Prix, an Aston Martin driver, Count Louis Zebrowski, died in a racing accident. It was not only a sad loss for the company but also the beginning of its woes. This accident had financial implications too, which led to the bankruptcy of the company. Lady Dorothea Charnwood later bought it.

Association with Films

Films have long been associated with fancy sports cars. Particularly, Aston Martin cars have heavily featured in the fictional character James Bond's movies. Though they did not feature in the earliest films of his series, James Bond drove an Aston Martin DB5 in the film 'Goldfinger.' Other movies that featured an Aston Martin include 'On Her Majesty's Service,' 'Skyfall,' 'Goldeneye,' and 'Casino Royale.'

Though Aston Martin cars did not succeed in formula one, the company has gone on to produce some of the most admirable sports cars in the market today. The company has gone through ups and downs over the years but has made a mark in the production of convertibles, four-door cars, grand tourer cars, V8 and V12 engine cars as well as vantage range cars.
