6 Fun Facts About Fiat

1. They Are A Majority Shareholder Of Chrysler In 2012

Fiat became a 60% shareholder of Chrysler. For some companies, this often means that there is a merger and the two companies begin to become one. This did not happen when this acquisition occurred. In fact, the two businesses have managed to remain separate entities that are successful in their own right.

3. The Origin Of The Name

Some people mistakenly believe that the name FIAT was used as the company name due to the fact that "fiat" means "so be it" in Latin. This is not the case at all. The company was founded by a group of investors under the name Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino and FIAT is an acronym for that.

4. Brazilian Popularity

These cars are extremely popular in Brazil and the country sees this vehicle as a leader in the market. While this is an Italian company and most of its vehicles are produced in Italy, many are produced in Brazil a well.

5. First In Mass Production

The FIAT Topolino, one of the most popular models produced by the brand, was first introduced in 1936. It was the first car that was mass produced in Italy. Before this, many people there did not own a vehicle at all.

6. Widely-Used Diesel Engines

There are many automobile companies that manufacture cars that use diesel engines made by FIAT. Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Saab, Chevrolet and Cadillac are several out of a fairly long list.
