Things You Need To Know About Ford Motor Cars

Ford Motor Company, an automotive corporation in America, was founded by Henry Ford and 11 partner investors in 1903. In 1919, the company was reabsorbed by his wife and son obtaining full ownership. The company deals in producing passenger cars, tractors and trucks as well as car parts and accessories. The headquarters are located in Dearborn, Michigan.

History

In 1896, Henry Ford created the first test car in a workshop at the back of his house in Detroit. In 1903, the first car was built at the factory in Mack Avenue. The best-selling Model T was assembled in 1908. This car was in great demand that it resulted in mass production of the cars to satisfy the customers' needs. In 1911, Henry Ford began the first assembly plant in Kansas City, US and another foreign plant in Manchester, UK. In 1914, daily wage was increased from the initial $2.34 for working 9 hours a day to $5 for an 8-hour day. This made labour productivity improve even more.

The company's original global-sales branch was established in Paris, 1908. In 1914, more than half a million Model Ts had been sold globally. In 1923, more than half the production of automobile cars in America was from Ford. By 1920, there were more than 20 foreign branches in Latin America, Europe, Canada, Asia, Australia and South Africa. By this time, Ford was the leading producer of automobile cars. The final model T was created in 1927 and in the same year, the first brand new model A was created. This was followed by ford V-8 in 1932. In 1938, the first Mercury was introduced; its price was in the medium range.

Expansion

By the 1990s, Ford Motor Company had focused its attention to its financial services and automotive concerns. It had also obtained Jaguar, a manufacturer of luxurious cars in Britain. In 1993, Aston Martin became a subsidiary of Ford. Later, acquisition comprised of Hertz Rental Car Company in 1994, Volvo car division in 1999 and the brand of Land Rover SUVs in 2000. In 2009, Ford had managed to avoid bankruptcy and its market share and sales had increased. Ford had to adopt several cost-cutting measures by focusing on brands that were stronger. In 2010, it sold Volvo to Zhejiang Geely Holding in China. Ford Smart Mobility was formed in 2016 to advance self-driving vehicles, car-sharing ventures and many other initiatives. In 2017, it announced that its line of electric cars will be increased and in 2018, all of the passenger cars, except for the Focus Active and Mustang, began to be phased. Their focus now is on SUVs, pickups and crossover vehicles.
