5 Interesting Facts About Renault

Renault is a French car company that was established in 1899. Since then they have manufactured vehicles that are beloved around the world. Whether you are a fan or simply curious, there are many facts about this company you might find rather interesting, including the following.

1. The Founder Was Very Young

Louis Renault was an engineering genius who had a passion for automobiles. His family was rather wealthy and they gave him the capital needed to follow his dream of opening a car company. He established a company with his two brothers and they began producing vehicles with two seats. All of this happened when he was just 21 years old.

2. They Did Not Originally Build Their Own Engines

In the first vehicles that were produced by the company, they purchased engines from De Dion-Bouton, another automobile manufacturer. This continued for the first four years the business was in operation. in 1903, Renault made the decision to manufacture their own engines.

3. A European First

The Renault Laguna was introduced in 1994. It stayed in production until 2001. There were two body types, hatchback and station wagon. This was the first European car that was created with a keyless ignition system. Others followed, but this was the first of its class.

4. An Interesting Model Name

The Renault Twingo was introduced in 1992. It was not a random word that the company selected for one of their models. It was actually a combination of three different words; twist, shout and tango. On the first day that it was introduced at a car show in Paris, more than 2200 vehicles were sold.

5. Introducing The Minivan

While there were technically minivans in production prior to 1984, the introduction of the Renault Espace is considered the first modern minivan. At the time when it was released, it boosted the popularity of the company. For the first time since the company was open, they were able to sell more than two million vehicles in a single year. This has happened consistently since then.
