Everything You Need To Know About SEAT Cars
SEAT (Sociedad Espagnola de Automoviles de Turismo) is one of the largest automobile manufacturer from Spain. The company began working in 1950 with assistance from Instituto Nacional de Industria and Fiat. SEAT appeared to be an upgrade of Fiats. Even some names of the models they created remained, like SEAT Panda from Fiat Panda and SEAT 600 from Fiat 600.
The first model SEAT created was "the SEAT 1400" in 1953. In 1965, they were already building and making exports of SEATs to Colombia. By 1968, SEAT had successfully manufactured a million cars for the first time. This number had doubled by 1974. In spite of being a large car manufacturer, the company required the funds and expertise to continue running when Fiat pulled out in 1981. SEAT turned to Germany for help and eventually signed a deal with Volkswagen a year later. Still in 1982, SEAT Ronda was introduced, an upgrade of Fiat Ritmo.
In 1984, the first Ibiza model was assembled in a factory situated in Zona Franca. The partnership they had formed with Volkswagen became tighter when Volkswagen purchased 51% shares of SEAT company in June 1986. This rose to 75% at the end of the same year. After 4 years, the German automaker bought more shares owning 99.99% of the company. After the acquisition, the Toledo debuted in 1991. In 1993, the new Cordoba and Ibiza were developed as SEAT celebrated the launching of a new branch at Martorell. By 1995, 10 million SEATs had been successfully produced. This was celebrated by having the Prince of Asturias roll the car out of the assembly. SEAT continued to produce more and even better models. Some of these models include the Alhambra which was created in 1996, the new Toledo in 1998, Cordoba WRC and Ibiza WRC. SEAT achieved a few titles from some of these models.
In this century, the company has improved in its branding and marketing strategies. In 2002, the new Cordoba and the Leon Cupra were developed. Still in the same year, there was a reorganization in the Volkswagen group resulting in SEAT joining the Audi Brand Group.
