Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso Concept Revealed

Alfa Romeo has unveiled the striking new Cuorerosso concept car, giving us our clearest indication yet of what the next generation of Alfa Romeos could look and feel like.

Making its world premiere at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso isn't intended to preview one specific production car. Instead, it's a design manifesto showcasing the styling, technology and driving experience Alfa Romeo wants to bring to its future models.

And if this really is a taste of what's coming, the future of Alfa Romeo looks rather exciting.

What is the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso?

The name Cuorerosso combines the Italian words associated with heart and red, bringing together two themes that Alfa Romeo says represent emotion and sportiness.

Those ideas run throughout the car, with Alfa Romeo identifying Italy, sportiness and the colour red as the three main pillars behind its design.

It's a dramatic 2+2 coupé which blends traditional Alfa Romeo styling cues with a much more futuristic exterior.

At 4,700mm long, 1,980mm wide and only 1,331mm high, the Cuorerosso has the long, low proportions you'd expect from an Italian performance car. It has a 2,930mm wheelbase, weighs 1,750kg and achieves a claimed drag coefficient of 0.28.

Classic Alfa Romeo design with a modern twist

Despite its futuristic appearance, there are plenty of details connecting the Cuorerosso with Alfa Romeo's past.

The famous Alfa Romeo Scudetto shield remains at the centre of the front end, incorporated into a modern interpretation of the brand's traditional Trilobo design.

Move around the back, and you'll find another distinctive Alfa design feature: the Coda Tronca, or truncated tail. The rear features two circular lights, and even the rear window takes on a Scudetto-inspired shape.

Traditional door handles have disappeared completely, with the doors instead operated using a touch control positioned on the roof. The concept also features rear-hinged rear doors and fully flush windows, helping create its remarkably clean profile.

Alfa has even reinvented its familiar 'telephone dial' wheel design, with the forged wheels using six circular elements arranged across three spokes.

'Necessary Beauty'

At the heart of the Cuorerosso is a new design philosophy Alfa Romeo calls'Bellezza Necessaria', or 'Necessary Beauty'.

The thinking is relatively simple: remove anything unnecessary and concentrate on the elements which genuinely serve a purpose.

Alfa Romeo says its designers spent only a week or two producing initial sketches before moving into three-dimensional modelling. The car was initially treated as one solid form, allowing the design team to concentrate on its proportions and surfaces before introducing elements such as the windows, wheels and smaller details.

The result is a remarkably clean piece of automotive design.

Inside, the driver remains the priority

The Cuorerosso might showcase plenty of new technology, but Alfa Romeo hasn't forgotten about the person sitting behind the wheel.

Its four-seat cabin has been developed around the driver, with individual seats, a long centre console and a slim horizontal dashboard inspired by the legendary 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and its modern counterpart.

One particularly interesting feature is the new'Cannocchiale Vivente' driver interface.

It can operate in two different configurations. 'Immersivo' retains Alfa Romeo's traditional two-element instrument layout, while 'Concentrato' physically brings the two sections together into a single display inspired by historic racing cars.

As the driving experience becomes more focused, the amount of information displayed can actually be reduced, leaving the driver with only what's considered essential.

A central'Magma Display' combines a digital touch surface with physical controls including a rotary dial, drive-mode selector and toggle switches.

There's also a steer-by-wire system and three different driving experiences called Cruise, Sport and Quadrifoglio.

What powers the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso?

Perhaps one of the most significant parts of the announcement isn't a particular powertrain at all.

Instead, Alfa Romeo has confirmed its future is being developed around a multi-energy approach, with its line-up prepared to accommodate:

  • Full electric
  • Plug-in hybrid
  • Mild hybrid
  • Full hybrid

Alfa Romeo also says its future vision extends across key market segments with models measuring up to 4.7 metres long, with the potential for future Quadrifoglio variants.

For the ultimate performance interpretation of the concept, Alfa Romeo specifically envisages a 2.9-litre V6 full-hybrid powertrain paired with Q4 all-wheel drive, a torque-converter transmission and carbon-fibre driveshaft.

Importantly, though, Alfa Romeo isn't presenting that as a confirmed production specification.

Performance remains part of the equation

The Cuorerosso isn't simply about dramatic styling.

The concept features air suspension alongside a Brembo carbon-ceramic braking system, while its aerodynamic design has influenced everything from the rear diffuser to the shape of its mirrors and wheels.

There's even a Quadrifoglio emblem on the concept, underlining Alfa Romeo's intention to carry its performance identity into the next generation of cars.

A very different shade of Alfa red

It wouldn't be an Alfa Romeo concept without an eye-catching paint finish.

For the Cuorerosso, Alfa has developed a new colour called Liquid Ink Red.

It combines a fine aluminium base with a coloured transparent layer. Depending on how light hits the bodywork and the angle from which it's viewed, the finish can change from a vibrant red towards black.

The red theme continues inside, where Alfa has combined traditional materials with some more experimental choices.

These include regenerated leather containing 60% post-industrial waste from premium upholstery production, Poltrona Frau nubuck and a lightweight technical fabric developed using research conducted with Luna Rossa.

Will the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso go on sale?

Not in this form.

Alfa Romeo is very clear that the Cuorerosso is neither a preview of a specific production model nor simply a styling exercise.

Instead, think of it as a window into the next era of Alfa Romeo.

Its design philosophy, technologies and multi-energy approach are intended to influence the brand's future models as Alfa Romeo balances electrification with the performance and driver involvement it's traditionally been known for.

What do we think?

Concept cars are always best taken with a small pinch of salt. It's unlikely you'll see a Cuorerosso parked at your local Alfa Romeo retailer exactly as it appears here.

But that's not really the point.

What's much more interesting is what the Cuorerosso tells us about Alfa Romeo's direction. Rather than allowing electrification and new technology to dictate the character of its cars, Alfa appears determined to make those technologies fit around what an Alfa Romeo should be.

And if even some of this stunning concept's styling makes the jump into future production cars, we're certainly looking forward to seeing what comes next.
