New CUPRA Born: What’s New for 2026?

The CUPRA Born has always been one of the more interesting electric cars on the market - a sporty EV that actually feels like it was designed to be fun to drive. For 2026, CUPRA has given its first all‑electric model a meaningful update, refining the design, upgrading the interior and adding new technology that makes the Born feel sharper, faster and more premium than before.

Rather than reinventing the car, CUPRA has focused on improving the areas that matter most to everyday drivers - whether you’re leasing personally or as a business.

A More Confident, More Distinctive Look

Visually, the new CUPRA Born leans further into the brand’s latest design style.

At the front, the old headlights are replaced with triangular CUPRA Matrix LED lights, giving the car a more aggressive and recognisable face. Around the back, there’s a redesigned rear end with an integrated and illuminated CUPRA logo, adding a more premium feel, especially at night.

The previous Born already stood out from most electric hatchbacks, but these updates make the new model feel more self‑assured and more obviously a CUPRA, rather than just a sporty EV alternative.

Huge Upgrades Inside the Cabin

CUPRA has reworked the interior to feel more premium, more driver‑focused and easier to live with, addressing some of the criticisms of the previous model.

Larger Screens and Better Digital Layout

The digital setup has been significantly upgraded. The driver now gets a new 10.25‑inch digital cockpit, replacing the much smaller 5.3‑inch display in the previous Born. This gives a clearer, more immersive view of driving and EV information.

Alongside it sits a 12.9‑inch central infotainment screen, framed by an illuminated sliding bar, creating a cleaner and more modern layout. A redesigned lighting control module also makes it easier to adjust exterior lights in a more intuitive way.

Physical Controls Make a Welcome Return

One of the most practical upgrades is the redesigned steering wheel, which now features physical buttons instead of touch‑sensitive controls.

This change improves accuracy and ease of use, especially while driving. Key functions are easier to access, and the wheel now integrates:

  • Satellite buttons for driving mode selection
  • Regenerative braking paddle controls on 170kW and 240kW versions

It’s a small change that makes a big difference, particularly for drivers covering longer distances or using the car daily on a lease.

Improved Materials and a More Driver‑Focused Design

CUPRA has also paid close attention to how the cabin feels.

The dashboard has a sculpted, driver‑centric layout that sweeps towards the driver, reinforcing the Born’s sporty character. Expressive lines and bold surfaces give the interior more personality than before, while CUPRA's signature copper‑coloured accents remain throughout the cabin, from the steering wheel to trim details and door latches.

The front and rear door panels have been redesigned, with a soft, sculpted shoulder and decorative patterned inserts that mirror the dashboard design. The result is a more cohesive and upmarket feel compared to the previous Born.

Even small usability touches have been improved, such as a simplified window control panel on the driver’s door that consolidates all four window switches into a cleaner layout.

Seats, Lighting and Rear Passenger Comfort

The new CUPRA Born continues to focus on the driving experience with standard bucket seats, or CUPBucket seats on the VZ performance model. These seats immediately reinforce the car’s sporty intent while still being suitable for everyday use.

Ambient lighting plays a bigger role too, flowing through the doors and subtly changing depending on the selected driving mode, helping to give the interior more atmosphere than many rival EVs.

Rear passengers also benefit from updates. Rear air vents have been added to the back of the centre console, improving climate comfort, while the redesigned rear door panels help create a more consistent feel throughout the cabin.

Sustainability Without Compromising Quality

Sustainability remains central to the Born’s identity.

Depending on specification, the seats are upholstered in SEAQUAL® Yarn, made from upcycled marine plastics, or Dinamica® recycled textile, with recycled materials used extensively throughout the cabin. Even the dashboard moulding features a 3D parametric design made from 75% recycled material.

Importantly, these eco‑friendly choices don’t feel like a compromise – the materials look and feel more premium than those used in the previous model.

More Technology, More Driver Focus

The new CUPRA Born also brings added technology designed to make electric driving more engaging.

New features include One Pedal Driving, which allows you to slow the car using regenerative braking without touching the brake pedal – ideal for town driving. There’s also launch control, giving the Born a more performance‑focused edge than before.

CUPRA has even added an immersive interior sound, designed to enhance the driving experience and give the car more character than many near‑silent EVs.

Wider tyres are now available with both 19‑inch and 20‑inch alloy wheels, improving grip and handling compared to the outgoing model.

CUPRA Born VZ: The Performance Option

For drivers who want the most powerful version from day one, the new CUPRA Born VZ sits at the top of the range. This is the most performance‑focused Born yet, offering:

  • 240kW (326PS) of power
  • 0–100km/h in just 5.6 seconds
  • An electric driving range of up to around 600km (WLTP)

Compared to the previous Born e‑Boost models, the VZ is quicker, stronger and more capable, while still retaining the benefits that make EVs attractive as company cars – including low running costs and favourable Benefit‑in‑Kind tax.

Improved Range and Everyday Usability

Range has always been a strong point for the CUPRA Born, and the new model builds on that strength. With a maximum range of up to 600km (WLTP), the updated Born is better suited to longer journeys and motorway driving than ever before. That makes it a more realistic option for drivers who might be moving from a petrol or diesel car for the first time. For business and fleet users, this combination of strong range, performance and low emissions makes the Born an increasingly sensible all‑rounder.

When Will the New CUPRA Born Be Available?

The new CUPRA Born has been designed and developed in Barcelona and will be built in Zwickau, Germany. Production is due to start in the second quarter of 2026, with UK arrivals expected in summer 2026. That timing makes it an appealing option for drivers planning a 2026 or 2027 car lease, particularly while electric vehicles continue to benefit from lower car tax rates.

Is the New CUPRA Born Worth Considering?

If you liked the original CUPRA Born, the new version improves on it in all the right areas. Compared to the outgoing model, it offers:

  • A more confident and distinctive design
  • Better interior quality and usability
  • More engaging technology
  • Stronger performance options
  • Up to 600km of electric range

It’s still practical and efficient, but now feels more premium and more exciting, exactly what many drivers want from an electric hatchback.
